Learning to swim at an early age learn to respect the water and to exercise caution when they are in or near it. Beside water safety awareness, children also develop fundamental swimming skills which allow them to enjoy water recreational activities lifelong. Studies have also shown that children who participate in swimming programme in their formative years tend to acquire a vast array of skills earlier than those who do not. They reach physical milestone earlier, score significantly better in visual-motor skill tasks and perform better when completing mathematical tasks. Many of these skills are highly valuable in learning environment and will be benefit young children as they transist into formal learning context such as pre-school or school.
